Glycolic Acid Peels Chicago

A peel is the application of a high concentration of glycolic acid to your skin for a short period of time. A peel usually takes about 15 minutes and is performed by your Doctor or trained medical esthetician. After gently cleansing your face and degreasing with a refreshing alcohol based astringent, the peel product will be quickly and evenly applied for a length of time determined by your doctor or aesthetician. A post peel neutralizer will be sprayed or wiped across the treated areas and you will rinse with cool water, pat dry, and continue your day as usual. During the application of the peel you may feel a slight burning or stinging sensation similar to sunburn pain, which will only last a few minutes. After the whole process is completed, your skin may have a pinkish flush tone, and will feel soft and refreshed.

The peel exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells and stimulates cellular renewal thus rejuvenating your skin. After a series of Glycolic Acid peels your skin will be revitalized, younger and healthier looking. Glycolic acid peels reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, lighten age spots for a more even skin tone, and smooth and soften the skin’s texture. They also help to open clogged pores for patients with oily and acne-prone skin.
Peels can be given every two weeks. With each peel they will either increase the time the peel product is left on your skin or increase the strength of the peel. This allows you to gradually reach the maximum benefits as your skin develops a tolerance for the glycolic acid. The average peel regimen consists of twelve peels over a six month period. It is important to discuss your skin concerns with your doctor or esthetician to determine if a series of peels is for you.

Prior to having your glycolic acid peel avoid excessive sunlight one week. After you peel wait a minimum of 12 hours before applying make-up and/or sunscreen. You may experience some stinging and irritation for several days following a peel, depending on the strength of the peel. Avoid sunlight for at least one week following a peel.

Daily maintenance with at-home products is very important. Your Doctor or esthetician will choose the products in strengths best suited for your skin type.
