The Procedure: Using multiple injections, Restylane is used to fill facial depressions, such as the deep folds between the upper lip and cheek and between the chin and cheek, or the “marionette lines” as they are commonly referred to. In addition, Restylane can be injected directly into and around the lips, enhancing the appearance and fullness of them. Further, because Restylane already has a local anesthetic in its solution, patients can’t feel the injections.

Dr. Hanna’s Notes: Restylane is an FDA approved natural cosmetic dermal filler that enhances lips, restores volume and fullness to the skin, and corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles, depressions and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Restylane is the first cosmetic dermal filler made of animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hylauronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body. Once injected, Restylane stimulates the skin to manufacture collagen. When used for the first time, studies have shown average results last six to nine months. When repeated over time, more collagen is formed, the depressions become shallow and no more injections are needed.
