Medical Name: Facial Liposculpture
Also Known As: Liposuction
Description: The liposuction technique is designed to remove localized fat deposits that have accumulated in compartments surrounding certain areas of the face, such as the cheek, jowls, lower face, chin, and neck.
The Procedure: By the use of a special suction instrument, fat pads can be eliminated around the face.
Dr. Hanna’s Notes: Liposuction can be performed in patients as young as 17 years old, to reduce heavy, rounded cheeks. A Submental Lipectomy is performed to correct a “double chin.” This procedure involves removing the localized fat deposits under the chin. Working through an incision under the chin, skin, fat and muscle are separated. The fat is suctioned out by means of liposuction, and any excess skin is trimmed away and sutured tight. A more youthful chin and jaw line is the obvious result.
The patient should understand there must be sufficient elasticity of the skin. An adequate amount of elasticity on the younger candidate is normally present, so contraction of the skin will take place afterwards. The older patient may lack proper skin tension. Rather than contract, they may show signs of loose or redundant skin. In these instances, the liposuction may be combined with a facelift to remove excess skin.
