Medical Name: Eyelid Reconstruction/ Blepharoplasty
Also Known As: Eyelid Surgery; Lash Lid
Description: By reducing the fat and excess skin, eyelid surgery can brighten the face and restore a youthful appearance. Eyelid reconstruction can be performed in conjunction with an eyebrow lift or also with a facelift.
The Procedure: The incision is made in the natural crease of the upper lid and excess fat is removed, excess skin trimmed, and the lid brought together and sutured. A single procedure is used for the lower lid to remove the excess skin and fat. The inconspicuous incision is placed about two millimeters below the lower lashes and is difficult to see.
Dr. Hanna’s Notes: Eyes are one of the most attractive features of the face and any distraction from their beauty can be quite noticeable. You no longer have to live with puffy, overhanging upper eyelids and wrinkled or baggy lower lids that give the face a tired, older look.
There are two very important indications for eyelid surgery. One is the hereditary protrusion of fat pouches that form around the eyeball, particularly the lower lid; which can appear at an early age. The other is excess skin of the upper lids that begins to sag gradually with aging. In severe cases, hooding and drooping of eyelid tissue is directly associated with the interference of peripheral vision.
